visit our site Part of the original colony of Saybrook, Deep River was settled in 1635. Famous for its annual Muster on the third Saturday in July, the town hosts visitors from all over the world who come to watch or participate in the more than 100 fife and drum corps. History continues to be a part of the local scene as the Valley Railroad steam train brings passengers to the same spot where steam boats used to dock, and antique shops- often set up in old homes or outmoded factory buildings - offer the past to collectors. One old home is now a bed and breakfast establishment and the town offers a variety of shops which sell gourmet food, gifts and cards, antiques, hardware, and toys, and there are many service businesses. |
